About Our Kenya Projects

OneKid has been working in Kenya since 2006. Our first project was a simple science lab at the Nyamasare Girls School in Mbita, Kenya. Since then, we have built dorms, science labs, classrooms, bathrooms and kitchens, installed solar power and water catchment systems, paid tuition for hundreds of students and salaries for teachers and nurses and provided over 4,000 students with feminine hygiene products at more than 22 schools in Kenya.

Here are some highlights of the projects we have done at several different schools:

Nyamasare Secondary Girls Orphanage
Suba, Kenya

This is was our original school that we started with building a science lab in 2006 for the 100 girls in attendance.  Since then we have built a two-story computer center/library, a new science lab, six classrooms, teacher’s quarters, two dorms and a fresh water catchment system (all SOLAR POWERED). We have bought textbooks, school supplies and athletic equipment for the entire school, as well as bunk beds and mosquito nets for the dorm. We have also paid tuition for over 300 girls at the school, as well as providing feminine hygiene products to whole school…which now has over 400 students!

Rusinga Girls Secondary School
Rusinga Island, Kenya

We have built classrooms and a science lab for the school. And in 2021 we built a dorm to house the over 200 students that now attend the school. In 2023, we also supplied the entire school with new textbooks, laptops, athletic equipment and feminine hygiene products for every student.

Stephen Kirindo Primary School
Mbita, Kenya

We have built a science lab and started several school programs, including a journalism class and school paper.

Kaswanga Girls Secondary School
Rusinga Island Kenya

Since we began working with this school, we have built 6 separate classrooms, supplied textbooks and badly needed school supplies. We have also donated athletic equipment so the students can have some fun as well as needed feminine hygiene products for the whole school. In 2017 we built a science lab that has enabled the students to take their National Exams for the first time. In 20022 we built a new dorm for all of the students as well as mosquito nets and books for the whole school!

Uya Primary School
Rusinga Island, Kenya

In our 2014 visit, we saw the 6 new classrooms that have been built since we began helping, classrooms in 2011 and in 2012 a science lab.  We’ve provided school supplies like textbooks for hundreds of students and have built bookshelves and paid teacher salaries.

Kamensangre Mixed Secondary School
